Estimated time for work permit issuance in Chile

The procedure for issuance of a work permit in Chile may vary for a Local Hire Work Contract Visa (Consular Application) and a Temporary Residence Visa for Local Hires (Post-Arrival Change of Status). Local Hire Work Contract Visa- for foreign employees who wish to be locally employed in Chile at least a four-month period- takes from 2 to 4 months until entry to Chile, and a further 1 month before the entire process is completed. Such employees are entitled to start work immediately after they arrive in Chile. Temporary Residence Visa for Local Hires—for employees who intend to live and work in Chile for an initial period of up to 12 months—takes from 1 week to 1 month until entry to Chile and 6 to 8 months before the entire process is completed. This visa is for post-arrival application; consular application is not possible. Applicants are not permitted to work until the work visa or Provisional Work Permit has been approved.
